FNSW - New Working with Children Check Policy

Football NSW has introduced a new Working with Children Check Policy. For the 2018 season and beyond, it is a requirement of Football NSW that all Technical Directors, Coaches, Managers, Referees and other persons in child related roles working or volunteering with children under 18 years obtain a WWCC and provide their club, Association, Centre, Branch or Referee Branch with a valid WWC number.

 

The main elements of the policy change are:

  1. All volunteer parents or close relatives coaching or managing their own child’s or close relative’s team, will now require a WWC number; and

  2. All Referees, will now require a WWC number.

  3. The only exemption for those roles recognised by Football NSW is the exemption for persons aged under 18 years.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?

 

This means that all Referees 18 years of age and over are now required to obtain a WWC Number. As paid Referees, this also means that you will need to obtain a paid WWCC.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

 

If you do not already have a paid WWCC, you will need to obtain one prior to the start of the season. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. If you are unsure if your paid WWCC is still valid, please use the following link to check this. https://wwccheck.ccyp.nsw.gov.au/Applicants/Retrieve

  2. Use the following link to go to the “Apply for a WWCC” section of the Service NSW website. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-working-children-check

  3. Select “Apply for your Check” and complete the online form, ensuring the name you enter matches your identity documents exactly

  4. Visit a Service NSW centre with your identity documents and pay the applicable fee

The fee for a paid WWCC is $80. This is payable at the time of verifying your documents with Service NSW.

 

Referees have generously been granted an extension by Football NSW to obtain their paid WWCC. The extension has been applied until Saturday 30th June 2018. This means that if you are unable to get to a Service NSW centre or undergoing financial hardship etc., then you will still be able to register on My Football Club without the need for a WWC number. You can be appointed to matches up until Saturday 30th June, in order for you to obtain the funds to apply for a paid WWCC.

 

We strongly recommend that if you do not have a paid WWCC, you do this ASAP, to make the registration process as easy as possible for yourself and the Registrar.
